My Freshman Year: 41-66
What stood out to me in chapter 2 of "My Freshman Year" was that students did not show much interest in the want to come together and do activities together. For example, students did not attend movie nights held by the RAs and when a popular TV showing was on, instead of getting a big group together, they watched it separately in their rooms. A good example of this was the fact that students watched the super bowl in their rooms instead of coming together as a group and watching it together. Nathan also says that the lounges are always empty. I find this different than my experiences at Bloomsburg. There are constantly study groups in the lounges and groups of people always get together to watch sports. I think that Nathan's findings would be different if she went to a different dorm because I really doubt everyone is that uninvolved across the whole university. I think it depends on the students in an area and their interests that affect the community of a place.
On Ethnography: 27-47
This section's main focus was observation. It is important to be observant of your surroundings because it shows that you are aware. Observation is simply about what is happening. It does not focus on why it is happening. This is helpful to keep in mind for when I complete my observations for the clue project because I tend to get wrapped up in the why and miss what is happening in the moment.
